Fenghuang Dancong
Phoenix Dancong from Phoenix Mountain in Chaozhou, Guangdong, is the most aromatically complex oolong tea. "Dancong" means single-bush — each tea tree is harvested and processed individually, preserving unique flavor profiles. The mountain's high altitude creates an extraordinary diversity of fragrances.
Ten Aromatic Types
Phoenix Dancong is traditionally classified into ten fragrance types: Iris, Osmanthus, Jasmine, Grapefruit, Orange Blossom, Night Fragrant, Magnolia, Almond, Cinnamon, and Honey Orchid. "Honey Orchid" is most common, offering sweet honey notes with orchid aroma; "Iris" is prized for its elegant, ethereal quality.
High Mountain Terroir
Phoenix Mountain's main peak reaches 1,497 meters, with persistent clouds, large temperature swings, and mineral-rich soil. Higher altitude means slower growth, thicker leaves, and more aromatic compounds. The prestigious Udong (乌岽) area produces the most sought-after dancong, commanding premium prices.
