Ripe Puer

Ripe Puer (shou pu'er) is produced using the artificial "wo dui" (pile fermentation) process developed in the 1970s. This method accelerates the natural aging that raw Puer undergoes, creating a tea with a mellow character ready to drink immediately.

Pile Fermentation

The wo dui process involves stacking sun-dried green tea with added moisture, allowing controlled microbial fermentation for 45-60 days. The heat and humidity transform the tea's chemistry — oxidizing polyphenols, reducing bitterness, and creating the smooth, earthy flavor profile that defines ripe Puer.

Quality & Taste

Quality ripe Puer displays a reddish-brown liquor with no off-odors, offering a smooth, sweet taste with notes of dates, ginseng, or wood. Grades like "Imperial" (using tender buds) or "Lao Cha Tou" (natural tea nuggets) represent different quality tiers. Avoid any product with moldy or fishy notes.
